CS371p Fall 2021: Week 2

What did you do this past week?
This past week, I went to the OOP lectures and learned about Collatz. I had some org applications that took up a lot of time, so I wasn’t able to get a head start on some of my programming assignments like I wanted to.
What’s in your way?
It’s been hard getting back into the swing of things, and I need to be more disciplined in working on my programming assignments early. I also need to start recruiting soon for internships which has also added stress to the past week.
What will you do next week?
I hope to start Collatz soon and my assignments for Compilers, Algo, and Competitive Programming. I also hope to schedule my time well, so I can get everything I need to get done.
If you read it, what did you think of the Paper #2: Makefile?
I thought this paper was very informative of how the Collatz program will compile, and it was helpful reading a makefile this in depth, as I usually just skim them or not look at them at all.
What was your experience of assertions, unit tests, and coverage? (this question will vary, week to week)
I learned about assertions, unit tests, and coverage in SWE last semester, so this week was a nice refresher on those topics. I also got to implement a lot of assertions and unit tests in Junit during my internship this summer, so it was nice being able to apply what I learned in SWE to the real world.
What made you happy this week?
I got to play mini golf with my friends on Friday, which was a nice way to end a very busy week. We also got McDonalds right before which was a huge plus. Overall, just being back on campus with my college friends has been really fun, and I’m looking forward to the rest of the school year.
What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
I recently found out about this iPhone/Macbook hack, where you can use your iPhone as a mouse for your Macbook. To activate the mouse on iPhone, go to Settings>General>Mouse, turn Mouse on, and then shake your iPhone to activate it. Your mouse should show up on your Macbook right after, and it’s a convenient hack for if you forget your mouse and need one quickly.
