CS371p Fall 2021: Week 7

What did you do this past week?
This past week, I turned in the Voting project, went to OOP lectures, and had an exam in another class. I also had a couple IM games to play, so the week was pretty busy for me.
What’s in your way?
I have a Compilers project due and a test Tuesday, so the next two days are going to be pretty stressful, but I’m looking forward to getting those things over with. I also am in the middle of internship recruiting, so I have to make time to focus on that on top of school.
What will you do next week?
I hope to complete some coding challenges for internships that I have applied to this week, as well as finish my Compilers project and Algo homework. I also have a couple IM games to play in again, so my week will be just as busy as last.
If you read it, what did you think of the Paper #7: Open-Closed Principle?
I read this paper last semester in SWE, so it was a nice refresher on the Open-Closed Principle. I like reading papers on how to make good design decisions, because this is something I need to get better at when I am programming.
What was your experience of arguments, returns, and consts? (this question will vary, week to week)
I thought these lectures were pretty straightforward. This is my first semester coding in C++, so that aspect of the lectures is always new to me.
What made you happy this week?
I went to Dallas this weekend for the TX-OU football game and state fair. I went with a group of my friends, and we spent the weekend hanging out, eating good Korean food, and cheering on the UT football team. It was a sad game to lose, but I had fun nonetheless.
What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
As someone who is on their phone a little too much, I have found it very beneficial to put all of my devices on Do Not Disturb mode when it is time for me to get a lot of coding done. Notifications can be really distracting and cause you to lose track of what you were doing, which sets you back in time.
