What did you do this past week?

This past week, my project team took a break from refactoring the website and I was able to focus on other classes and giving myself a mental break from the semester.

What’s in your way?

It has been a pretty stressful and exhausting week, so it is nice to have the weekend to relax and decompress. I’m also in the process of figuring out what classes I need to take next semester and registration is always a pain because CS classes fill up pretty fast.

What will you do next week?

Next week, my project team will begin to meet up again to work on Phase 4 and the presentation. Most of the work we have to do will be styling the website and working on the visualizations which is something I am looking forward to. I’ve mainly been working on front-end for the website, so I feel like this phase will be very in-line with what I like to do.

If you read it, what did you think of the What Happens to Us Does Not Happen to Most of You?

I’m glad this paper was assigned to us, as I feel like issues like racism and sexism in the tech workplace needs to be addressed and brought to light. While it may be uncomfortable to read some of the stories in the article, it is necessary to do in order to make progress in tackling these issues in the workplace.

What was your experience of joins and refactoring? (this question will vary, week to week)

The Hackerrank exercise we did today (Friday) was pretty simple to understand and implement and brought back nice memories of coding in Java.

What made you happy this week?

My brother and his girlfriend visited Austin from Sunday to Wednesday, so I spent a good amount of time at the beginning of this week hanging out with them and catching up. We also ate a ton of good food (Don’s, Via 313, and Velvet Taco), so I got to take a break from cooking for myself for a few days. It’s always nice being able to see family after weeks to months away from them, and this week was a good reminder for me to keep checking in on my parents and siblings even when college gets busy.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

Most people probably know this by now, but if you are an Apple user and have both a MacBook and iPad, you can use your iPad as a second screen/monitor for your MacBook. The feature is called “Sidecar” and can be found in your MacBook settings. Here is a link for a more detailed explanation:
